AFTER LANDING GEAR RETRACTION, WE ENCOUNTERED ABOUT 10 BIRDS OF SAME SPECIES AT BASE OF A SCATTERED CLOUD LAYER, VISIBILITY REPTD AS 3 1/2 DUE TO LIGHT SNOW. BIRDS WERE ABOVE A/C FLYING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND ALTERED COURSE AS WE SLIGHTLY LOWERED TEH NOSE TO PREVENT CLIMING INTO THEM. 1 BIRD HIT AND DAMAGED THE RT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER ON THE TAIL. DENTED IN LEADING EDGE 8" WIDE, 4" HIGH AND 2" DEEP. NO FEATHERS REMAINED, ONLY SML AREAS STREAKED WITH BLOOD.
