Remarks: WHILE DOING LOCAL FLIGHTS AT KHCD REPORTED HITTING A LARGE GOOSE WHILE ON 2ND FLIGHT. SUBSTANTIAL DMG TO LEFT WING. NTSB RECEIVED CALL DIRECTLY FROM PILOT. PILOT WAS ABOUT 100 FT FROM APCH END OF RWY. RT WING HIT BIRD AND LOST LIFT. HE APPLIED FULL LEFT RUDDER, LEFT AILERON AND ENG POWER. HE LANDED WITH MODERATE IMPACT ON MAIN LDG GEAR. ARPT IS NEXT TO STATE GAME REFUGE. MIGRATORY BIRD ACTIVITY HAD DRASTICALLY INCREASED OVER PAST YEARS.
