Annadel State Park


Annadel State Park is located in Sonoma County on the northern edge of Sonoma Valley. The 5,000 acre park offers many recreational activities for visitors to participate in. In prehistoric times the park was occupied by the Wappo and Pomo people.

The park features diverse wildlife and scenery throughout the year, although if visitors wish to view the wildflowers at their most beautiful, they should visit from April to June. There are also many rock formations that played an important role in the history of the park. This includes the volcanic origins, the mining of cobblestones in the early 1900s and the ways in which hikers take advantage of these volcanic rock outcrops.

The areas of plant species that are found in the park include California oak, grasslands and woodland riparian zone. Oak woodland is the dominant plant community which features many different oaks. The wildlife that is commonly seen at the park includes Blacktailed deer, skunk and raccoon, on occasion bobcats and mountain lions have been spotted.

Most of the streams in the park are dry during the summer apart from Ledson Marsh which retains small water pools during the year. The largest elevation at the park is Bennett Mountain which is 1887 feet.

At Annadel State Park there are 35 miles of trails which can be used for running, hiking, mountain biking, visitors can also fish for bluegill and black bass in the park's largest body of water Lake Ilssanjo.
