Briggs Mine

Briggs Mine has been an important part of California history since the beginning of the gold rush. Briggs Mine is located in Death Valley National Park near Panamint Valley in the Panamint Mountain Range. The owners of the claim have recently thought about opening the mines again to find higher grade ores. If Briggs Gold Mine does begin operations again they would move north of the current site in southern Panamint Valley. They have 10,000 acres of land in which they have claims running in the Panamint Mountains. Their claims are from Happy Canyon north of Ballarat to Redlands Canyon.

Panamint Valley is one of the remaining valleys which is considered under developed for gold mines in Death Valley National Park. It is a national concern that Briggs Mine wants to reopen a claim. From the outside looking in the mine area looks undeveloped. One has to get closer to the actual mined area to see how the mountain range has been dug out. The southern mine is less visible from Highway 178 than the northern mine would be. New exploration has not begun yet. If it does the roads will be formed two thousand feet higher than the current mines.
