Chrysler Building

A skyscraper located on the east side of Manhattan close to the Turtle Bay area, the Chrysler Building was the world's tallest building for eleven months in 1931 until the Empire State Building took over the title. After the World Trade Center was demolished, it regained its title as the second tallest building in the world until the Bank of America building added a spire to its top.

The building was designed in the art deco style and is considered by many to be one of the finest buildings in the city of New York. The American Institute of Architects named it on the List of America's Favorite Architecture. The Chrysler Corporation headquartered here until the 1950's.

Visitors can view the building's renowned mural in the lobby. However, the building is used for business, so guests are not allowed beyond the lobby. The lobby is open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Chrysler Building is just 15 minutes west of LaGuardia International Airport. The building is within walking distance of the Empire State Building, New York Skyride, and Grand Central Station. Other tourist sites nearby include MoMA, Carnegie Hall, Ground Zero, Rockefeller Plaza, Central Park, Times Square, the Theater District, Whitney Museum of American Art, Central Park Zoo, and St. Patrick's Cathedral.
