The headquarters of the Rocky Mountain National Park is a resort town known as Estes Park. Rocky Mountain National Park is actually located at 1000 U.S. 36 in Estes Park, Colorado. Estes Park can be found on the Big Thompson River in Larimer County, Colorado. Joel Estes, a native of Missouri founded Estes Park during 1859 and the town is named for him. The Stanley Hotel which dates back to the early 1900's and even inspired the location of The Shining is on the outskirts of town.

At an elevation of over seven thousand feet Estes Park is at the Rocky Mountain National Park's eastern entrance. The park contains a wide variety of scenery for visitors to enjoy including lakes, streams and wildflowers in the meadows.
