Gold Rush City

Gold Rush City is a walking tour offered in San Francisco, California starting at the northeast corner of Clay and Montgomery at the Transamerica Pyramid. Visitors can get to this point on public transport via the MUNI lines 1 and 15. These guided tours are generally available three days a week all year round. This includes every Wednesday at 11am, Fridays at 1.30pm and Sundays at 2pm.

Knowledgeable guides take visitors around the streets and sites of downtown San Francisco on an hour and a half to two hour tour. Along the way they explain the early history of the city, the impact of the gold rush and who or what the Vigilance Committee was. Amongst the sites here the tour takes visitors to the streets of Yerba Buena Cove, which were the haunts of the original 49ers (gold miners).

The walk takes guests through some older parts of town and includes the sites of brothels and saloons. Visitors do not need to make a reservation to join the tour unless they are in a group of eight or more people. It is advisable to check the tour schedules in advance but they will not run on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
