Honeymoon Island State Park

Honeymoon Island State Park is located at Causeway Boulevard in Dunedin, Florida and can be accessed from the mainland via the Dunedin Causeway. Originally known as Hog Island the name was changed to its current name in 1939 when 50 palm thatched bungalows were built for honeymooners. Visitors are welcome to bring pets to the designated beach on the southern tip of the island and on the nature trail but they must be kept on a leash at all times.

The park is open to visitors throughout the year from 8am until sundown and has many activities for people to enjoy. Ranger led trail walks offer an opportunity to learn more about the park and there are various interpretive exhibits at kiosks across the park. Visitors can also observe various species of birds such as osprey, oyster catchers, great blue herons and snowy egrets amongst others.

There are picnic areas at the park with tables, covered pavilions, restrooms and grills and here visitors may spot gopher tortoises and armadillos. With approximately four miles of shoreline, visitors can relax on the beaches with a concession area renting beach chairs and umbrellas and there is also a restaurant here. Swimming is permitted at the main beach and there are other watersports available including kayaking, canoeing, fishing and surfing.
