Mazzariello Labyrinth: Sibley Volcanic Regional Preserve

Mazzariello's Maze is a labyrinth in Oakland that was created by Helena Mazzariello. It is in the shape of a classic labyrinth and has also been called the Volcanic Witch Project. It is located in a remote area that offers peach and serenity. Visitors are able to walk the labyrinth while meditating, relaxing, praying, or just to see the talismans that have been laid in the center of the maze. Many believe the labyrinth is a path to spiritual awakening and symbolizes the quest for religious peace. Labyrinths have been used since ancient times as a means of healing and guidance. Mazzariello's labyrinth is special because of its rugged, natural surroundings. It was, in part, created from volcanic fire and brimstone and is positioned at a spiritual and geological crossroads. The labyrinth is open round the clock everyday, so visitors have access to the peaceful serenity no matter when they arrive. The Friends of the Labyrinth group are responsible for maintaining and cleaning the labyrinth. Maintenance is required or the area around the labyrinth would become overgrown, erasing the path from existence. The labyrinth is looked upon by some as being illegal and a fire hazard. Homeowners in the area are sensitive to the candles and incense that are often lit in the labyrinths center and feel that the dry season, coupled with the burning fire, could lead to a potentially dangerous situation.
