Miracle Mile

The Miracle Mile is located in an area called Mid-Wilshire in Los Angeles, California. Miracle Mile is actually almost two miles, running from Wilshire Boulevard between Fairfax and Western Avenues. The surrounding neighborhoods are also part of it, including Park La Brea. The name was given to the shopping district because it encompasses much more than California shopping.

Tucson AZ, Coral Gables FL, Elmire NY, Las Vegas NV, St Louis Park MN, Stockton CA, and Fontant CA are all part of shopping locations named Miracle Mile. It is an honorary name. This particular Miracle Mile was first developed as farm land in the 1920s. Then, developer AW Ross felt the long drive could become a commercial district that would rival downtown Los Angeles. Due to this insight many shops and buildings began to spring up and Ross provided a number of Firsts such as the first traffic light, parking lot, etc.

At the time retailers like Desmonds, May, Coulter's, Mullen and Bluett, and Seibu spread across Wilshire. Now there are a number of museums and other tourist attractions that are on Miracle Mile. In fact Museum Row offers Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and A+D Museum all on Miracle Mile.
