Mojave Airport

Mojave Airport was opened in 1935 as a rural airfield for the gold and silver industry. By 1942 the US Marine Corps owned the field, expanding it to the Marine Corps Auxiliary Air Station. For World War II many flying aces received their training at Mojave; however, by 1946 the airport was closed as a Marine Airfield and given to the US Navy. In 1972 the East Kern Airport District formed as the administration and they still run Mojave Airport today.

Mojave Air and Space Port has changed since its early days, with more than 3300 acres of research center using the latest aeronautical designs. There are over 40 companies using the airport. There is also the National Test Pilot School that trains more pilots than any other school around the world.

The airport has been upgraded with rail infrastructure and switch engines. They do roughly 34 rail car shipments a day. They do have commercial and civilian flights that go in and out of Mojave Airport. Standard traffic has a pattern altitude of 1000 feet, jets 43000, and helicopters 3300 MSL. They also have runway lights on all 30 runways for night flights to come in.
