North Beach

Located in the northwest part of the San Francisco area, about a half mile south of Fisherman's wharf, North Beach is a community also known as San Francisco's Little Italy. The general vicinity of North Beach stretches between Russian Hill and Telegraph Hill.

The North Beach community is known as having a small-town feel with all the surrounding excitement of a major metropolis. An event of note in this area occurred in 1954 when Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe took photographs at Saints Peter and Paul Church directly after their wedding. This church, known as the Italian Cathedral, sits at the center of North Beach and is reminiscent of Roman architecture.

The area boasts fantastic views of the bay and of the city of San Francisco. The community also has "the world's crookedest street," Lombard Street. Visitors will also find numerous cable cars, the famous Coit Tower, steep hills, and a variety of international dining and entertainment choices.

By car North Beach is located about 20 minutes north of San Francisco International Airport. Nearby tourist sites include Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Yerba Buena Gardens, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Golden Gate University, and The Contemporary Jewish Museum of San Francisco.
