Ridgewood Ranch

Following the success of the movie Seabiscuit, it seemed everyone knew the story of the horse. Those in the town of Willits, California have always been fans. The Ridgewood Ranch in Willits was Seabiscuit's home and visitors to the area can visit the ranch today. The horse made its run during the Great Depression, giving hope to a lot of people in California and across the nation. Seabiscuit lived at the ranch when he was recovering from his racing injuries and then spent his retirement years in his special bar until his death in 1947. There are not many ranches left from this time period, making Seabiscuit's former home truly something special. Those wishing to tour the ranch can enjoy a one and a half hor walking tour on weekdays during the summer. Weekend tours last two and a half hours and include continental breakfast and home movies of Seabiscuit. All tours include the stud barn, the barn's where Seabiscuit's owner's other horses lived, the owner's home and some of the Seabiscuit's descendents. Anyone with an interest in horse racing or who developed a fondness for the horse that America loved will enjoy a tour of the grounds. Even those with no interest in horse racing will enjoy seeing a place that sees frozenin time.
