South Lake Tahoe Bike Path

Also known as the Forest Bicycle Trail, the South Lake Tahoe Bike Path is a paved ten-mile trail. It starts on U.S. Highway 50 where it first contacts the shore of Lake Tahoe at El Dorado Beach, site of a tranquil picnic area. From here, the path connects to a number of other bike trails and lanes that pass through the city of South Lake Tahoe in California and cross the state line into Nevada.

Along the way, portions of the South Lake Tahoe Bike Path bridge across Trout Creek and the Upper Truckee River to the south of the lake. The blacktop meanders toward excellent views across Truckee Marsh to Lake Tahoe, eventually meeting up with the extremely popular Pope-Baldwin Bike Path. Here, cyclists can enjoy the facilities of the Forest Service Visitor Center or relax on sands of Pope and Baldwin beaches.

When cycling on the South Lake Tahoe Bike Path, riders are encouraged to follow the rules of the road, as outlined by Tahoe City Parks and Recreation. That means obeying all traffic laws, wearing a helmet (mandatory for children under 18 years of age), and keeping to the right side of the path.
