Studio for Southern California History

The Studio for Southern California History seeks to offer social and cultural perspectives to those who attend the studio. The studio examines history from "the bottom up" by looking at the various historic communities and strife that affected the Los Angeles, California area. Place, politics, and entitlement are all discussed at the studio. Throughout the year they offer exhibitions for visitors and residents to enjoy. Some recent exhibits include Love is Living Large in LA, Law and Disorder, Work in Southern California, LA Women, Southern California Sports, and Signs of Our Times.

There are also permanent exhibits on display including various media displays. Much of the displays in the permanent collection are of oral history gathered about California history. They also have photographs, letters, postcards, personal correspondence, maps, rare books, and multimedia projects. Digital reproductions have been created with technical and scholarly standard in order to be displayed at the Institute for Museum and Library Sciences. Tests, images, and hypermedia are all provided at the Studio. Residents are encouraged to get involved with the studio by offering photographs of their area that have some cultural or historic significance visitors can learn from.
