Sullivan Canyon

Sullivan Canyon is a natural valley near Los Angeles, California. Residents and visitors to the area can take a nature hike through Sullivan Canyon. Highlights of the area include sycamore and oak trees, birds, and shady areas. Total distance of hike-able ground is 7.5 miles round trip. There is a small elevation gain of 950 feet from the beginning to the end of the trail. Sullivan Canyon can be hiked in 3.5 hours along a moderate, well groomed trail. The trail is not a loop, but an out and back situation.

The beginning of the trail starts with an imposing gate, which offers a short paved road into the canyon floor. The canyon is full of woods and bordered by a creek. The creek is seasonal, meaning it has more water during spring runoff. At other times of the year it may have little to no water. The first few miles of the canyon hike are uphill. The last mile is where one gains the most elevation. There is also a 180 hair-pin style turn at the top. The top is bordered with several reddish rock formations, while the rest of the canyon is well wooded. California rains help keep the lush landscape.
