Tahoe National Forest Headquarters

The Tahoe National Forest Headquarters of Nevada City, California is an important location for the preservation of the Tahoe National Forest. The forest belongs to the Sierra Nevada Mountain range in Northern California. It is a large territory with foothills, high peaks, and plenty of water areas. Part of the Sierra Nevada's is the Plumas National Forest, Eldorado National Forest, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, and Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. On the western border is Sacramento Valley.

The headquarters are in Nevada City; however, there are sub-districts in Foresthill, Truckee, and Sierraville. In the summer and much of the winter there is a Visitor Center in Big Bend, which is 20 miles from Truckee.

The Tahoe National Forest is divided into four ranger districts: American River, Yuba River, Truckee, and Sierraville. The Tahoe National Forest Granite Chief Wilderness Area in Squaw Valley and under directorship of the headquarters was established in 1984 by Congress. The area is 19,048 acres. The headquarters are not available for tour; however, anyone in Nevada City can visit to ask questions or report concerns about the national forests in the area. The Tahoe National Forest is filled with historic and prehistoric sites preserved by the headquarters.
