Venice Canals Walkway

The Venice Canals are considered by the locals to be a hidden treasure. In the early years 1905 "Venice of America" was constructed as a seaside resort, miles of artificial canals filled with fresh sea water. By 1920, Venice had an aquarium, amusement rides, a giant Ferris wheel, gondolas on the canals and electric trains to bring people to the beach. In later years, some canals were filled in, but today the Venice Canals Walkway is a lovely serene spot, especially popular with small kids. Visitors can stroll along the canals, watch for ducks and geese, and walk across the bridges. For moms or families with small children, strollers are acceptable to use when crossing over the bridges.

On Sundays the area is bustling with tourists and locals alike. Musicians, jugglers, and sidewalk vendors are all found in the vicinity. People are drawn from all over southern California to this area for the fun activities, sights and sounds that only Venice Beach has to offer. Kite flying is a popular activity near the Venice Canals Walkway and open air stalls selling kites can be found around the area. The wide sandy beach offers a great place to fly the kites in the light ocean breezes.
