User-submitted facts and corrections:

  • Talkeetna, Alaska sits at the bottom of America's highest peak, 'Denali' or 'The Great One' (referred to by outsiders as Mt. McKinnley). The World's mountain climbers must start in Talkeetna and fly to the Kahilta Base Camp at the 7,000 foot leval and then climb up the West Buttress route to the summit at 20,320 feet. The climbing season is from May thru September. Each year over 1000 people attempt the climb. Not everyone reaches the summit due to the weather and or altitude sickness. The word Talkeetna means 'three rivers' which is where it sits at the conflux of the Susitna, the Talkeetna and the Tanana rivers. To get to Talkeetna, you take the Parks Hiway to milepost 99 and take the Spur Road 14 miles, at the end of the road is Talkeetna. (on yer mile report....... knik/fairview is ROAD names not the town name of 'Wasilla' thats 60 something miles from Talkeetna. And there's no such place as Meadow lakes?? You got Anchorage, Fort Richardson, Eagle River, Peter's Creek, Wasilla (Parks Hiway), Big Lake, Houston, Willow, 'Sunshine' which is listed as Y, ALASKA)(cut off to the Talkeetna Spur Road at mile 99). Its 14 miles from the 'y' (Sunshine) to the end of the road in Talkeetna..... (in yer report you would end up in da river. 19.? miles) and Trapper Creek is 14 miles to the 'y' then another 29 up the highway so it can't be just 18 miles to Trapper Creek less you goin as the crow flies. Then continueing north, TANANA, (spelt wrong)and so on to Fairbanks. I HAVE LOTS OF PICS TO SHARE.......
