According to the grocery chain's parent company, the Albany, Colonie, Niskayuna, Slingerlands and North Greenbush stores are marked for closure.
"We entered the marketplace a little over a decade ago to bring a quality supermarket to the area. Unfortunately, we have not been able to sustain the level of sales needed to keep the stores operating today. We thank our customers for their patronage and our dedicated associates who served the community." said a spokes person from the Wakefern Food Corporation.
Does PC have better sales/prices than Shoprite? I don't live in the area, but am considering it.
I don’t know if they have better sales, but Price Chopper is known for being a good, reasonably price supermarket. They have a reach that is more based in the eastern half of Upstate NY and into parts of MA, VT, CT, NH and PA. There are 4 in the immediate Syracuse area, with 2 in the Oswego/Fulton area in Oswego County NW of Syracuse and that is roughly as far west as they go.
In the Albany metro area, there are 25 locations with 6 in Albany, 3 in Schenectady and 2 in Troy, Saratoga Springs and Clifton Park. There are another 7 or so in the CSA outside of the metro area. So, it has a strong presence in the area.

Where are the ones in Troy? The one on Hoosick Street is actually in Brunswick.
You are also forgetting one in Loudonville (I pass by that one on my work commute), Latham (above the traffic circle) and 19th Street in Watervliet, which is one block from my house.

It appears to be in South Troy just inside the city near HVCC.
I understand what you are referring to, as one of the Syracuse locations is actually in the town of Geddes just outside of the city limits. So, there are likely some that are similar in terms of being referred to by the nearest main city, but is actually a suburban location. That’s the case with one of the “Albany” locations, which is actually the Loudonville location you mentioned.
