I've been on those bike paths. It's amazing the bullying I've witnessed; the itty-bitty cyclists are oddly very aggressive.

I think those bike paths are a great idea to cut down on traffic. Still, it's confusing for everyone and cyclists run those stop signs, as depicted.

I've been hit twice, only nicked, still I took that as warning signs for something bigger, so I cut back my cycling on public roads

There's no reason why the lanes need to be that wide. That said, as someone who bikes and drives I know the bigger problem is motorized vehicles with aggressive drivers many of whom think it's appropriate to wage road rage toward a bicycle, while they are wrapped in steel.

Nobody but cyclists like this. It's a privileged group with lobbying power exertion yheir will. Everyone understands it on paper and in theory. Practically it's a public opinion failure and will always be one.

As a cyclist I have to say. That seems like a pretty dumb design. I am not a fan of this group further pushing the us vs them narratives. I am also not a fan of being called a cyclist. I’m just trying to get to work. But the idea that cyclists are the main problems on the roads is quite laughable. Cars kill a lot of people. Most times people are getting away with murder in cars every day. Talk about privilege.

A lot of the resentment comes from lazy asses. The last thing they would ever do is un-ass their privileged candyass selves from that car seat and they are uncomfortable seeing anyone else do that. Even the "weekend warrior" so-called athletes whose main adult athletic activity involves drinking and sitting their lazy carcass in front of the boob tube, wearing a dumb team jersey, watching a game. lol

I never understood the fully kitted up aero helmet crew that take up every lane possible to prove a point. Not my jam. But, lumping those people in with all people on a bike is as dumb as lumping all drivers in with the clowns who shut down streets to drag race.

Yes, but that's what some people do best and they need targets for their rage other than their favorite pols (whom they vote for). They don't actually know any of the many people who don't get dressed up in expensive bike outfits and make a sport of it, but who just peddle themselves to work, don't want to take their car everywhere and find parking, or simply like getting some exercise on weekends. How awful that is! All they think about when they hear bike is an aggressive bike messenger (from the 90's) or some fanatic who makes biking a lifestyle. Some just don't like sharing the road with anyone or anything. Sucks to be them, I guess.

Has anyone had experience with this particular setup? I haven't ridden in the area (pre or post current configuration), so I can't speak to this actual spot. I'm wondering if it's a newness issue (i.e. it'll be fine once people get used to it), or if it's truly a matter of bad design.

I'm a huge proponent of improving cycle infrastructure so that normal people can easily get around on a bike. With congestion what it is (and the T what it is), it can easily be one of the most efficient ways to get around the city. And I think the Boston area is making great strides towards being really bikeable place. But that doesn't mean every new piece of bike infrastructure is well done or well thought out. There's a otherworldly entitlement issue with drivers and I worry that each instance of a poorly executed piece of bike infrastructure just fuels anger/anti-cyclist sentiment.

I know Boston , at least was very quick to correct a mistake they made to the Arborway. They initially closed the funnel to Forest Hills to 1 lane. Shortly after some data they opened it to 2 lanes and made the bike/emergency lane narrower. Of course that doesn't stop 1 of 5 motorists traveling in that lane to cut in front of everyone to get t the next red light 100 yards away.
