Woo-Hoo! So I got a job offer in Chattanooga near 75/317 (Apison Pike) area - starting in late September. Good company, and I am looking forward to it. I'm currently living in SC so i'll be relocating. Driving there to check out places to live is an endeavor that I will need to do over a weekend.

I would ultimately like to buy a house, with ~1/2 + of land, in a quiet area where I can see stars, and not hear cars. Safety, low crime, lots of nature, under 250K, but still be about 30 mins to work. Schools are not terribly important as I am single, and 60 years old. But, some semblance of civilization like food store, maybe a few non-fast food restaurants would be good too. My hobbies are church, hiking, gardening, reading.

However, being new to an area, renting might be a wiser thing to do until I get to know what's what and what's where.

I was thinking possibly the Cleveland or Calhoun areas. They seem to be more affordable, and have lower crime. Any thoughts on these places?

Many thanks!

You have likely made your move by now and found some information about the area. Closer to Cleveland may be more of what your looking for. I think Calhoun/Charleston currently only have a Subway and Hardees. My wife and I live a short distance from I-75 off exit 33 and if traffic is good it takes about 20-25 minutes to get to 317 (exit 9 I think).
