I've been working on restoring and conserving movie posters, and finally got enough confidence to restore this etching from the late 1800s. As you can see, it had lots of foxing and was in sad shape. I think it turned out fairly well.
Working with old paper is very tricky, but can be rewarding. The etching is now mounted to archival drafting film instead of the masa or other paper used as a backing felt when the print was made. That paper was slowly destroying the print.
I made etchings in college, but nothing anywhere near as nice as this one. It is of a lover's lane on Goat Island on the Niagara River.
