My oldest DD, son in law, and grandsons (7 and 4) just arrived at Chinquoteague, Virginia, yesterday for a week's beach vacation. Enjoying the pics they are sending me. My grandsons have never seen the ocean before (they live in landlocked Ohio). I grew up in Eastern PA, so trips to the Jersey shore were numerous for me and my siblings during our summers growing up, and we always loved the seashore.

DH and I took DD and her younger sister to Chinquoteague one year on vacation when they were kids, and she remembered how much she loved it, so she wanted her kids' first beach experience to be there. They hope to see some wild ponies. We didn't see any during our stay there, but maybe they'll luck out.

If you've seen my previous posts about DD and my grandkids, she's a "health nut". She owns a health food/nutritionist business, and pretty much practices what she preaches, herself and her kids. She doesn't EVER let her kids have sugar or junk food. She said she was going to "relax" the "nutritionist" over this vacation, and she has. I'm looking at pics of my grandsons with ice cream cones. They're loving it, and I couldn't be loving it more.

I need to add that the cones were dipped in chocolate and sprinkles! Grandsons have had ice cream before...on their birthdays...but it was always some honey sweetened organic concoction DD sells at her store. These were real legit soft swirl cones. I saw breakfast pics from this morning...they're eating huge Belgian waffles. When DD said she was relaxing the "nutrition" rules, she wasn't kidding! Last pic I saw, they were on some sort of an opened window tour bus to catch sight of the wild ponies. I hope they see some! I wish I could be there with them. I love how you can share vacation pics now instantly, via cell phones, without waiting to get them developed. It's a little bit like being there with them.

Oldest grandson (7) lost another tooth last night. It had been really loose, and while he was brushing it just came out. They put it under his hotel room pillow, and the tooth fairy left a dollar. Heck, the tooth fairy will find you no matter wherever you are!

After the pony tour, they are going back to the beach to build sand castles. DD got them a whole bag full of sand toys from the dollar store. DH and I were just at the beach on South Carolina (for our 40th anniversary) a week ago, and had brought them a whole bunch of sea shells we'd found, and showed them pictures and videos of the beach and ocean, so the kids were all stoked and ready for their vacation. I just would have given anything to see their reaction at their first glimpse of the ocean...

Edit: I need to add, DD is only allowing the kids ONE "junk" treat per day. She doesn't want hyperactivity or upset stomachs/diarrhea to ruin the vacation. She packed them a lot of healthy snacks/treats and fruit for their stay.
