SO recently found out his best option is all on 4 dental implants. No bone grafts, nothing fancy. And the price. Hope you are sitting down. 56K. Least expensive we have found here so far is 40K.

Procedure wise, it's not difficult. 4 titanium screws in each jaw. Temporary dentures followed by permanent ones in 6 or 8 months.

Some of these places have really slick shiny marketing so I am thinking they are way overpriced. Hoping someone here knows a more reasonable option. And they are wise to the idea of leaving the country to get it done cheaper. One of them flat out told us no dentist here will work on you if you have the implants done in another country. How they would recognize an implant was done in MX or CR, who knows?

No knowledge of mexico but I know that thailand has first rate dental services, and I met someone organising trips particularly for americans to get first rate dental work done.

I believe they can do all the arrangements of travel etc too. Personally, I'd investigate it. Save $30k and enjoy thailand for a few weeks.

crowns and root canals in Mexico many times. And crowns and root canals in Costa Rica. Root surgery once too in Costa Rica. Root canals were maybe $250.00 on average and crowns the same. Surgery was about $300.00
I probably will need an implant fairly soon. A dentist fixed up a pin into a crown and cemented it in a root and it has held up for 15 years. Starting to feel loose.

This was with local Spanish speaking doctors not the dental tourism operations.

Of course living here makes it easier. But my house is not going up 15% a year either.

So it all balances out.

Not sure how urgent the need is for the OP's SO, but be aware that travel to Thailand at the moment is not the easiest. A few hoops to jump through before permission to enter is granted, and once you land there is currently a mandatory 14-day quarantine that is strictly enforced.

Thailand was heading toward opening up by reducing the quarantine, and in a few months eliminating quarantine, but they are in the midst of a Covid outbreak and nobody knows for sure what will shake out.

That said, I lived in Thailand for 19 years and the dental care is (in general) very good and very affordable. I had a friend (who lived there, too) who had an implant a couple years ago for about US$1,000. I would be inclined to go with an all-inclusive travel package as recommended by @hotjambalaya just for the sake of convenience.

I was recently in Nogales at Laser Dental, had a tooth extracted and the price for a dental implant is $1400.

The problem with that is you have to make 3 trips down there, which didn't appeal to me.

In Las Vegas, I would always fly down to San Diego/Tijuana and go to Washington Dental on Revolution Avenue.

Some dental clinic's in Tijuana accept insurance, like Aetna. If you look at Aetna's Provider List, you'll see 5 of them in Tijuana.

A Dentist in Mexico explained to me why dental work is so expensive in the U.S., the pressure to constantly upgrade their equipment.

In the 22 years I lived in Las Vegas I never saw a Dentist there. Used to be you could fly RT from Las Vegas to San Diego for $98. I'd catch the earliest flight down, take the late afternoon/evening flight back after having dental work.

Dread? Not me. SO, maybe. I have traveled a lot. Would love an excuse to go to Thailand. But the current COVID climate seems to be not good there. Having to quarantine for 2 weeks in a hotel would be pretty awful. Another concern, if you had problems, it would be a big trip to get back to see your dentist.

AHA! I was hoping to hear from you! I know you have talked about dental in MX a lot and I have a question for you. How would any US dentist be able to recognize and accurately classify dental work as being done in another country? I ask because the outfit here that gave us the highest price told us no US dentist would touch him if he got the implants outside the country.

I am going to look up Washington Dental in TJ.
