Why would he live in Maryland? Just get a studio or roommate in or around Ballston.

The Maryland suburbs would be a long commute and on the surface makes zero sense. The cost of living is the same, the level of safety is the same and taxation as well. For around $1500 a month or less he can find his own place close to work in Arlington which falls within the recommended 1/3 of income and in most instances, walk or use public transit versus the expense of a car.

Agree with others - there is absolutely zero reason for a single person that work near Ballston to live anywhere in MD.
