Is there anywhere in New York where we can have a slightly rustic home in a woodsy setting but also have quick access to to organic groceries year round? Let me know if I should clarify any part of my question. Thanks for any help you can give us.
As for what you are looking for in terms of rustic and Wegmans, I'd say some of the small, rural towns in Tompkins County outside of Ithaca(Dryden, Trumansburg/Ulysses, Groton, Newfield, Danby, Caroline, etc.).
The towns south of Syracuse are more rural/small town in character(Lafayette, Tully, Fabius, Pompey, parts of Onondaga, Otisco, Spafford, etc.). There are other towns in the area that could work as well.
The Southern Tier(Binghamton, Elmira, Corning/Hornell(Steuben County), Olean, Jamestown areas) offer woodsy, hilly areas and each have a Wegmans.
Towns around Auburn(Cayuga County-Sennett, Brutus/Weedsport, Aurelius, Springport/Union Springs, etc.), Geneva and Canandaigua(Ontario County), Batavia(Genesee County) and of course around Buffalo and Rochester as well.
Is there anything else that you would look for in a community/neighborhood/town, etc.?
I would look at any of the outer suburbs around Rochester, especially the south and east side for the organic food. Lots of secluded, wooded residences close to everything. Some other shopping venues for organic food besides 20 Wegmans, would be Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Lori's Natural Foods at the Rochester Regional Market, and the Rochester Public Market. There are other's too.
Thank you. I looked at this list of Wegmans locations: https://www.wegmans.com/stores/#ny
Then I started looking at the satellite image for each store trying to find nearby neighborhoods that appear to be heavily treed / wooded. That's really what we'd like, lots of trees.
I saw there might be some woodsy neighborhoods in the vicinity of the Fairport Wegmans for example but overall would you say that area is very suburban?
What do you think of the area surrounding the Hornell Wegmans?
Thanks.

Fairport is an eastern suburban area of Rochester and Hornell is a small city of about 10-11,000 with a couple of small villages around it(North Hornell and Arkport).
There are other forested areas near Wegmans stores like say around Phoenix near the Route 31/Great Northern location in the town of Clay north of Syracuse. You may also like Onondaga Hill, a community I’m familiar with that is close to the Western Lights location just west of Syracuse. There’s also the Lyndon neighborhood and the area around Jamesville-DeWitt High School near the huge Fayetteville/East Genesee location just east of Syracuse. So, you have a lot of options, if you know where to look.
As JW mentioned, there are other stores that would be options for organic foods as well.

I think you have to clarify, please. There are plenty of more than slightly rustic homesites within Monroe county.
Most grocery stores are in commercial areas with very few trees. The whole Rochester region is very green with trees, but commercial areas in all cities are like that. What is it about trees that make groceries better?
We've vacationed in some really nice "cabins" in NY (Catskills, Adirondacks, Finger Lakes, Southern Tier.) During these trips, both of us have felt the most happy and relaxed we have ever been. It's not just because we were on vacation; we've been to many other places on vacation and we don't get that same level of total joy and peace that we feel in New York. So that makes us long to live there BUT on these vacations we are willing to drive far and stock up for groceries, often at smaller markets that don't have a large selection of organic food. That arrangement is fine for a temporary stay but long term it would wear on me.
In order to have something like Wegmans or Whole Foods we'd have to be in more of a population center, not a remote location. I'm trying to learn if there's a place that could give us that private, woodsy setting but also has a Wegmans or similar level of grocery store right there.

All very nice communities. The first two are east/SE of Syracuse and last two are east/SE of Rochester.
In terms of other stores, Green Star is a local chain in the Ithaca area: https://greenstar.coop/ (They also have Wegmans and Trader Joe’s)
The Syracuse Cooperative Market on the city’s East Side and the Salt City Market in Downtown: https://www.syracuse.coop/ (There are multiple Wegmans and a Trader Joe’s in the area, as well as this store with locations in Fairmount(a western suburb) and Oswego(about 40 NW of Syracuse): https://www.greenplanetgrocerystore.com/
The information about other NY grocery chains is very helpful for me, thanks! I'll look up those store locations and check out the satellite pictures to see if there are some wooded neighborhoods nearby. It's gonna take forever.
We are going to come up for a long visit soon to get the in-person experience but I'm trying to weed out places we shouldn't bother checking out.
I like these below but as far as I can tell nothing on the level of Wegmans close by (maybe I'm wrong?):
I'm curious to find out how woodsy and rustic we can get while still having quick year round access to high end grocery store.
