Charlotte added an estimated 15,607 people between a one-year span from July 2022-23 to reach a total population of 911,311 people, according to the data released this morning. Charlotte's numeric increase ranked third highest among incorporated places in the U.S. with populations of at least 20,000 people.

Fort Mill, meanwhile, notched the nation's 13th-highest growth percentage, as its population jumped 8.8% to reach an estimated 33,626 people between July 1, 2022 and 2023.

Charlotte's population grew 1.7% during the year period — the same as in 2022. Its growth rate as a percentage ranked at No. 274 among cities and towns with populations of 20,000 or more.

Seven towns or cities in the local metro area had populations with higher growth rates than Charlotte. In addition to Fort Mill, those are:

Monroe (Union County), up 4.9% to 37,797 people
Kannapolis (Cabarrus and Rowan counties), up 3% to 59,321 people
Indian Trail (Union County), up 2.6% to 42,854

Just for fun, I briefly explored homes that were for sale in Anson County. While prices are nowhere near Raleigh and Charlotte prices, even it isn't as dirt cheap as it used to be. A doublewide was pushing almost 180K.

I discovered the same thing! A new house in Peachland today is not necessarily cheap.

Geesh...that's something else.

On the SC side of metro Charlotte, I would say there's Chester County to consider but it's scored some notable eco devo wins in the past two years or so that may be putting upward pressure on housing prices as a result but I haven't checked.

Has the casino had an effect on housing prices in Cleveland County?
