Hoping to either drive from West Michigan to Indiana Dunes National Park in the next couple of weekends to hit the dunes, catch a Rail Cats Baseball game and then hit the zoo in South Bend on the way home. Thinking either arriving Friday morning or Friday evening (at the Dunes area) and staying Friday night and Saturday night before hitting South Bend on Sunday.

I've been to Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan each of the last two Summers, so I'm wondering if anyone out there could let me know how much is enough time to spend at the Dunes and get all of the things I mentioned fit into the weekend.

I'd personally arrive Friday morning and spend the day at the Dunes or going to a game. Next day I'd do the opposite. Sunday would be the zoo.

How much time you want to spend at the Dunes depends on what you want to do there. Hike, enjoy the beach, both?

I would consider going to the Indiana Dunes State Park over the National Park. The beach is nicer, and the admission fee is lower ($7 Indiana resident, $12 out of state per car).

I grew up in the area and agree with richb. I personally like the state park best (great hikes and nice beach - ranger programs too). The state got there first and then to protect the area further (great thing to do) setup the National Lakeshore are around that.

Gary's Miller Beach neighborhood is where the Indiana Dunes begins and where the national park's Douglas Nature Center is located. The trails around the Douglas Center are beautiful, it's where the national park was dedicated. Hike to Miller Woods Beach from there. Alternatively, there is Marquette Park, it's a ginormous city park that joins two national park beaches together. The shore is lined with very pretty dunes and there is a cool trail between Lake Street Beach and Marquette Park beach that is paved and takes you through really pretty dunes. https://www.visitmillerbeachgary.com...indiana-trails
