Arriving at lunchtime at Sky Harbor and headed to the Cottonwood/Sedona area. Would sure appreciate you locals lunch suggestions (legit recommendations in a good area with good food) and closer to the Sky Harbor part of the commute than the Sedona side as we wil be hungry on arrivals and would love to try local favorites. Thanks in advance.

I assume you'll be renting a car. If so, you might want to try Carolina's, which is less than a mile from the Sky Harbor rental car center, before getting on the freeway. It's not in what would generally be consider a "good area," but cops eat there a lot, so I wouldn't worry about safety.

A more full service choice for good Mexican food before you leave town is Comedor Guadalajara, just off I-17 as it curves south of Downtown:

If you want something other than Mexican food, I suggest getting of I-17 at Northern Avenue. Just east of the freeway are some good places for Japanese, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean food.

As you head farther north along I-17, you start to see familiar chains along the highway until you reach Anthem.

Kid Chilleans right off I-17 north Exit 244. Was on Bar Rescue in 2013. About 45 minutes north of Sky Harbor. Good food and service. Not over priced.

If you like chicken and authentic soul food, I recommend Lo Lo's Chicken and Waffles. This is the original location I believe. Started out as a hole in the wall place and now they have grown. Really good food. 1220 S Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85003

Another interesting place is Chino Bandido. It's Mexican/Chinese. A fun place, good food (at least it used to be. I don't live up there anymore). 310 W Bell Road.

If you can wait to eat a bit, go to The Rock Springs Cafe. It's on your way up the I-17. It's been there forever and is known for their pies. Wild west type place. 35900 Old Black Canyon Hwy, Black Canyon City, AZ 85324

Dick’s Hideaway about 10 minutes North of the airport just off the 51. You won’t regret it.
