Has anyone on here, who has lived in different parts of the country noticed a difference in the amount of roaches or palmetto bugs when compared to the Portland area?

As one who has primarily lived in South Louisiana and Florida, I'm getting kind of tired of them getting in no matter how much I do to keep them out.

I personally am shocked, and delighted, at the lack of roaches here in Portland. I spent about 30 years in several parts of Texas, and encountered hundreds, maybe thousands of roaches over the years.

I've been in the Portland metro area for 9 years, and I have yet to see a single roach. Not one, unless you count the insect exhibit at the zoo I attended.

Lots of roaches, but you have to ask REALLY politely to get a hit off one.

Or have a medical card. LOL!

But actually, in the over 30 years I have lived in Portland I have only seen one. The crawling kind. And it was dead.

I have not seen one in the five plus years I have been here in Oregon.

Like juggler, I saw the hissing cockroaches at the Oregon Zoo and that's it. Actually, I heard there were roaches at certain restaurants in Portland from insiders (aka friends who are employees). A friend also had her old apartment downtown sprayed for a roach infestation, but I don't think she ever actually saw any while she lived there.

Compared to Raleigh (and my old apartment)? They simply don't exist.

There are pockets of roach infestation in areas of bad sanitation, but generally they are not a problem. Oregon roaches live in the forest where they evolved, and do not enter houses. Domestic roaches are imports. They must be around, because I have seen ugly infestations in low income housing, but most people never see one.

Maybe something eats them.

The only roaches I ever saw in Oregon was in my Father-In-Laws rentals when people brought them in when moving from the South East. Even the Arizona Sewer Roaches don't come here. We never had an issue getting rid of them when the tenet moved on, so there is something about Oregon that doesn't agree with the transplants.
