The world of professional football is mourning the loss of one of its celebrated members, Jimmy Johnson, a renowned defensive back who left a significant footprint on the sport. Johnson’s death at the age of 86 was confirmed by the Pro Football Hall of Fame on May 8. He passed away in the San Francisco area, California following a lengthy illness.
Sad news, time wins over all of us.

Rest in peace

Just to clarify, this is the former 49ers cornerback/safety. Not the former Cowboys/Dolphins head coach, and current sportscaster.

A couple notes here----

Rafer Johnson is noted as winning the decathlon in the 1960 Olympics in Rome. jimmy is his younger brother. He was a five time pro bowler, a four time second team all-pro, and a four time first team NFL all-pro. In the first half dozen years of his career he was a two way player, played wide receiver as well as cornerback.

There are stats that definitely help the cause of an NFL player for induction. And that is the numbers. In Johnson's case, he had 47 interceptions. He played 16 seasons so that would be about three picks a season. But Johnson was noted as a great player in his day, quarterbacks like Unitas, Starr, and Tittle had been quoted as saying that his coverage was so well that balls wouldn't be thrown in his area that often.

With that headline, it's almost a click-bait thread.

OP should have done better.

IF you want to be an athlete, Maybe Jimmy Johnson is the name to have
6 Jimmy/Jim Johnsons made a mark in the NFL

6 in pro baseball
One famous Jimmie Johnson in the NASCAR circuit
\
a couple more played Hockey

the Jimmy Johnson we are honoring now had a storied and impressive career, albeit much before my time, and it is impressive how many games he played and how he maintained a successful career in a league that he offered a versatility at CB and WR on the pro level.

Not too many players could do that today.

RIP Mr Johnson
