Sacramento International Airport (SMF) was rated the BEST medium-sized airport several years in a row, so why do you still use SFO or OAK airports?

SMF had close to 11 million passengers in 2017 and is adding more and more NON-STOP flights to more destinations and increasing the amount of flights to major hubs and non-hubs.

HOW MANY PASSENGERS ANNUALLY IS SACRAMENTO LOSING TO BAY AREA AIRPORTS? 1 MILLION? 2 MILLION?
3 MILLION?

So why not fly SMF to LAX or SMF to SFO?

Do you actually drive to SFO?

Because it's usually cheaper to fly from SFO than Sacramento. I'm talking a significant difference.

I hate milk runs, I used to travel every week for my job when I lived in Reno and at least during that time most flights were craptastic regional jets that went to SFO or LAX where you had a lot of downtime changing planes. I only travel for pleasure now but I will do what I can to avoid regional jets or plane changes when flying, if I can accomplish that in Sacramento that's great, if not I will drive to Oakland which I don't consider a huge inconvenience.

And in your poll I can't imagine it costing me $100-$200 to get to SFO, I'm not going to take Uber there for heaven's sake I would drive.

Really? Significantly?

Totally not worth it, schlepping it to SFO, traffic, wasted time, gas, inconvenience to yourself or whoever schleps you to SFO, increased risk of missing your flight, SFO security vs. SMF security.

DELTA HUBS: LAX, Seattle, Salt Lake Cty, Minneapolis, Atlanta - NON-STOPS

To Seattle $20 difference
From SMF: $136
From SFO: $116, add the cost of getting to SFO $280

To Salt Lake City $6 difference
From SMF: $160
From SFO: $154, add the cost of getting to SFO $314

To Minneapolis $90 difference, but what about the cost and time of getting to SFO?
From SMF: $298
From SFO: $208, add the cost of getting to SFO $372

To Atlanta $8 difference
From SMF: $306
From SFO: $298, add the cost of getting to SFO $462

To LAX $18 difference
From SMF: $116
From SFO: $92, add the cost of getting to SFO $256

Uber/Lyft one-way to SFO from Sacto: $164

Why would you take Uber to SFO? If you don't own a car you could rent a car for far less than what you are quoting for UBER

When I book a flight to the Far East or Far South East, it's about a $100 difference. I take the Bart, pay the little special fee to have my car parked there for a few days, and pay the bart fee and BOOM. Plus it seems like SFO has more flexible times where I can leave at my convenience.

How much does it cost you to park at Oakland, do you factor that in your cost? Ground transportation cost and Time?

Practically every flight east that goes out of Oakland or SFO involving one connection will take you the same route as from SMF mostly on 737-800, 737-900 or larger. Very few small jets are used out of SMF; its not Reno.

How much of your decision to fly out of SFO or OAK is force of habit?

Totally, understand to the Far East, of course, but, but...

Parking for just a few days at BART, they don't allow over 24hrs, multiple days at BART lots. AirBart is not cheap especially considering you are driving 75-100 miles just to get to your parking lot, plus BART train, opps, they shut down the BART again, missed flight..... Why? for $100 savings on airfare, when I could have just flew to LAX or SFO.

I always look at my options out of SMF first.
