Wondering what it’s really like to live in Oroville. I’d like to move to Chico but Oroville would definitely get me more bang for my buck, but at what cost? Are drugs and/or crime a huge concern? Is it too isolated? What’s the situation with homelessness? I’m looking to retire in a few years and I’d like somewhere peaceful but not totally cut off from everything. I appreciate any feedback!

It is a nice town, we live in the Kelly Ridge area, & do not see any homeless. As in any city or town, they tend to congregate near shelters or places with shelter. It is not isolated at all, easy access to Yuba City, Sacramento or Chico. A beautiful lake for water sports ( the dam ) & a hot summer & coller winter. The Walmart is horrible, but I don't go there.

I actually see more homeless in CHico than in Oroville. But maybe that is becasue of where they camp. There a a few homeless tent cities visible off the freeway by Chico.
Where do you live now? Can you make it for a visit?

Yes we live in Sacramento and are looking for a quieter lifestyle. We’ve been to Chico many times but have only driven through Oroville and it didn’t seem like there was much to see. Will definitely take some time to visit but wanted some perspective from locals as well. Thank you!

Oroville suffered a lot from past wildfires and nearly burned to the ground. I know since my parebts lived there and had to evacuate at the time. Something to keep in mind.

The wildfires were far out of town. But of course they are a threat, everywhere in California. The places that burned to the ground was Paradise, Feather Falls & Berry Creek.

What is it you want to see? Quiet neighborhoods would be Copley Acres & Kelly ridge. There is a nice visitor center in Kelly ridge. With a viewing tower & some Native exhibits inside. In terms of shopping we are ok, but need to go to Chico for Costco & Trader Joes, there is a good selection of grocery stores here. And of course 2 casinos if that is your thing.
Downtown Oroville has a few nice places to eat. The Union & Provisions both have good food, & there is a small wine bar downtown too. If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.
