I take my medications 3x's/day at 9.00 a.m., 6.00 p.m and 11.00 p.m. I'll be travelling to a different time zone in August that is 5 hours ahead, which would mean a new schedule of 2.00 p.m., 11.00 p.m. and 4.00 a.m.
Currently my iPhone has silent reminders to log when I take the meds., and will automatically adjust time zones and therefore reminder times. For obvious reasons my main concern is that 4.00 a.m. reminder as I'll be sleeping.
I'm going to talk to my Dr. about it, but I'm curious to know if any of my fellow C-D travellers have had the same issue and how they handled it.
I think one adjusts to the time zone in the country one is in which might be mean taking the first dose in the new time zone a few hours later than it would have been in the old time zone and then continuing regularly according to local time.
It kind of depends on the medication, and it's best to work out a plan with your doctor.
If it's dependent on being taken on an empty stomach or with meals, then you want to adjust according to the time zones.
But if it's something that has to be taken at regular intervals and skipping a dose can be detrimental, then you want to adjust what times you take it, even if that means setting an alarm to take a dose at strange hours.
Thanks for your replies everyone. My thinking was that I'd just take them at local time which will be 5 hrs. earlier than my current schedule. There's really only 1 pill that I must take daily, the rest of them aren't critical and that 1 pill is usually taken at dinner time. Definitely going to speak to my Dr. to see if it's OK.
