OK a brand new year and a chilly January 2022.

Average high was 38.1, about four degrees below normal. However snow was not a real problem, just a few inches on the 5th and 6th, but it melted rather quickly.

February looking normal or slightly below normal with temps. But recall February last year brought heavy Snow. Not normal.

February average high checks in at 50.5, two degrees above normal. What is interesting is the high was 70 on 2/10, and the lowest high was 30 on 2/24. I think we are out of the woods for snowfall this season, ending up with just several inches for the season. (edit: March snowfall in Eastern WA does occur, but not normally in the Tri-Cities)

While I now live in Central Texas but did you guys get slammed with snow in late December? Glad this winter was overall a mild one for you guys, over where I live at we went through a weather pattern, on 2/22 the high temps were 86 degrees, 24 hours later it got down to 32 degrees! I went from wearing a t-shirt and gym pants to being bundled up in my wool coat and 2 layers of clothing and a scarf in that time period.

Yeah, anyplace in the central time zone can go from hot to cold in a day!

No, our only short-lived cold was January 5-6, 2022. Other than that, very mild winter.

Did your area ever get a lot of snow? I heard about SE Washington getting hit good with snow right after Christmas.

As I said above, just a bit on January 5-6 but none after. The Tri Cities has mountains nearby that get dumped on.

This last winter was one to have a lot of very small snow events, with only one that put several inches on the ground, and that melted off in about a day. We had several just dustings of snow starting around last Christmas.

Nothing like that one "Snowmageddon" event that I think was in 2016. Had close to a foot of snow on the ground and it stuck around for like 3 weeks, mostly in February.

I don’t have any record of significant snow in early ‘16. You may be referring to early ‘17 where there was significant Tri Cities snow with close to ten inches total between January 2nd and January 8th. I show it melted within a few days but understand you are west of the metro area.

I remember December 2016 being severely cold and snowy, thankfully much of the snow melted by Christmas only for it to come back in early January 2017

March 2022 temps are in. Average high was 61.4, about 2 degrees above seasonal normal, a trend in the past couple of years. March started with a 71 on the first, and 70+ on three more occasions, not terribly out of the ordinary.

So far in 2022:

January -4 below average
February +2 above average
March +2 above average
