Hi all. I just accepted a Job in Woodland Hills. I have 2 kids (3 yr old and 1yr old). My wife is a Registered Nurse and will look for a job when we move there. My max budget is $1.5M but would prefer to stay under $1M if possible.

I currently live in a suburb of DC and commute 14 miles to work daily. Takes me 57 minutes one way.

I am looking for a commute sub 40 minutes, good schools (which all three seem to have) and a city with some decent health care positions.

My research has led me down the path of the following three cities.

1.) T.O. - Family oriented. easy commute to my work. I’ve checked commute at peak hours and it seems to be 18 minutes
2.) Simi Valley - Family oriented. Commute seems decent (40 minutes in peak hour)
3.) Camarillo - Family Oriented, commute is a question mark (peak drive times have ranged from 35 min to 1 hr)

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated. T.O housing market seems to be super fast. Houses are lasting on the market for days in single digits. Simi Valley and Camarillo have houses which fit our criterias that have been on the market for 20+ days.

Westlake Village seems like a nice/safe area.

You may also wish to look in Calabasas, Oak Park and Agoura Hills, though these are in LA County. Those areas/cities are nice, safe neighborhoods and just west of Woodland Hills, making the commute to Woodland Hills manageable.

FYI, highway 101 is a heavily travelled freeway, in both directions, especially during rush hour periods.

Go for Thousand Oaks. Simi is very GOP and went for Trump. To get to Camarillo requires driving over a mountain range even higher that the one to get to Woodland Hills; you don't want to have to drive over two of them to get to work, RIP your car.

Other good choices you did not mention are Oak Park and Agoura Hills. But T.O. has the most amenities.

Houses are indeed flying off the shelves in T.O. right now.
