Description: Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport (formerly known as Williams Gateway) is a hub for Allegiant Air, which provides affordable flights to western destinations like Missoula, Montana, and Colorado Springs. The airport is on the site of former Williams Air Force Base, which was closed down in post-Cold War Department of Defense budget cuts. It handles approximately 280,000 takeoffs and landings per year—including corporate, cargo, general aviation, and military aircraft. A major economic hub for the area, the airport has about 35 business tenants, including aircraft maintenance, modification, and testing services. It also offers car rental services in the remodeled facility. The control tower operates daily, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Facilities include fuel sales, a pilot lounge, VIP lounge, pilot shop, and an excellent cafe. Arizona State University’s east campus is also here.
