Description: Six rooms with private baths, six rooms with shared baths, and three cabins with private baths and full kitchens make up this authentic 1933 log lodge. Construction is of ponderosa pine on the first two levels inside and out, with knotty pine inside on the top floor. Many of the furnishings are the same vintage as the buildings. There are hot tubs, a gift shop, a wine and beer bar, and a TV in the great room near the flagstone fireplace. Views from this mountain lodge are tremendous, and Wild Basin and its wonderful hiking trails are nearby. Children younger than age 14 are welcome in the cabins, and older kids may stay in the lodge, too. It’s about a 45-minute drive from Boulder and a 25-minute drive to Estes Park. The lodge includes a hot family-style breakfast in its rates.

Description: The Eagle Plume Gallery and Museum of Native American Arts has been a local landmark since 1917 and is a favorite stop. Located 10 miles south of Estes Park on Highway 7, it has a huge collection of art and artifacts, including rugs, jewelry, pottery, baskets, and beautiful beadwork of the Plains Indians. Active in the Native American rights movement, founder Charles Eagle Plume graduated from the University of Colorado in 1932 and was later awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humanities from CU-Boulder.
