Description: The Seventh-Day Adventists built their tuberculosis sanitarium here nearly a century ago. The location is beautiful, near Mount Sanitas Trail and the peace of the foothills. Today the hospital is a division of Boulder Community, offering rehabilitation services for victims of strokes, accidents, brain injuries, developmental disabilities, and more, as well as behavioral health services for people suffering from psychiatric disorders, chemical dependency, alcoholism, depression, drug abuse, eating disorders, and teen behavior problems.“Easy Street,” a special part of the rehabilitation facilities, has stores, curbs, cars, and restaurants so patients can practice real-world situations again. For patients working on balance, there is equestrian therapy and a low-ropes course. In past years therapy for head-injury patients has included a hike up 14,000-foot Pikes Peak to improve physical coordination and self-confidence. A warm-water, nonchlorinated therapy pool is open to anyone; call for hours and fees. A satellite facility, at 6685 Gunpark Drive, Suite 130 (303-530-3062) in Gunbarrel, offers physical therapy, speed and occupational therapy, and pediatric rehabilitation.
