Description: Copper Mountain, which celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1997, is treasured for its well-laid-out terrain and congenial ambience. Copper Mountain is famous for its logical layout. As you are looking at the mountain, with I-70 at your back, most of the easy terrain is in the middle, most of the intermediate runs are in the middle or on the right, and most of the challenging turf is to the left. Copper Peak, 12,441 feet, is (after Arapahoe Basin) Colorado’s second-highest lift-served summit. Spaulding Bowl, Union Bowl, and Resolution Bowl have long been favorites with powder-loving skiers and snowboarders, but in 1995–1996, the area built the first of two lifts in Copper Bowl and catapulted into the top rank of Summit County ski areas. All the bowls are steep snow pockets, treasured by advanced skiers and riders.Copper Mountain now boasts 21 lifts (including three high-speed express chairlifts), 2,601 vertical feet, and 2,433 acres of skiable terrain—the most in Summit County. If you start at the village center, you have the choice of two high-speed express lifts, American Flyer or American Eagle, that shuttle skiers toward Copper Peak and Union Peak, respectively. These two summits, the snow-kissed slopes cascading down on all sides and the valley between them offer a sensational array of ski and snowboard terrain for all ability levels. The Union Creek area, with a separate day lodge, is one of Colorado’s best novice areas. If you’re a new skier who needs practice, you can ride the K and L lifts and ski nearly 1,000 vertical feet of gentle terrain free of charge during part of the ski season.Copper’s well-regarded day-care facility is in the Mountain Plaza Building. The children’s ski school, which offers ski lessons for kids age 3 and up as well as snowboarding instruction for older children, is headquartered in its own building, with ski school desk, kids’ equipment rentals, and food service under one roof.At-the-window, one-day tickets cost about $65 for adults, $50 for seniors aged 60–69 and $35 for children ages 6 through 14 and those 70 and above; kids age 5 and younger are admitted free. They also offer a patriot ticket rate of $50 for military members and their immediate family. Discount tickets are available at King Soopers, Safeway, Albertson’s, Diamond Shamrock, Total, Christie Sports, and other locations. The Copper Card enables you to buy up to four lift tickets discounted to the lowest available price every time you visit. It also offers additional discounts on food at the resort and on goods and services at Copper and elsewhere in Summit County.
