Description: Located about an hour or so southwest of Colorado Springs, near the historic gold mining town of Victor, Grey Wolf Ranch lies in the heart of Pikes Peak country. You’ll get stunning views of Pikes Peak, the Sangre de Cristo Mountain range, aspen groves, spectacular rock outcroppings, and acres and acres of rolling, wooded terrain, pasture, and prairie. It’s all about horses here. Their equine programs deliver a unique horse experience, from basic horseback riding lessons to an equine management workshop. After you master your horseback riding skills, take a trail ride adventure with an hour, a half-day, or all-day ride. The ranch, which opened to guests in 2007, offers all-inclusive family vacations, romantic retreats, and corporate meeting spaces. They describe the decor of their lodging as “rustic elegance” in the private cabins, each complete with a queen bed, loft, kitchen, dining area, wood-burning stove, and full bathroom with a “grotto” shower. Larger groups can stay in the Horse Barn Lodge, a 1,900-square-foot cabin with 2 bedrooms on the lower level and a private suite on the upper level. The elegant upper level suite offers a full kitchen, living room, master bedroom, master bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub. Two private decks offer great views. There’s no pool, and it’s entirely nonsmoking, but they are wheelchair accessible and welcome kids and pets. There’s also no restaurant on property, so stock up on groceries before you arrive. They do serve a continental breakfast of pastries and fruit each morning. If you get tired of riding horses, head into nearby Cripple Creek for a little gambling, a few attractions, and some affordable restaurants.
