Description: This 36-year-old dance company–cum–school and theater is dedicated to providing cross-cultural, African-centered performances and classes. Its fall and holiday performances are at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Jazz and modern-dance aficionados will relish this internationally renowned group. Well-known performers from around the world visit the school and theater, and the ensemble goes on extended tours. An annual July event is the International Summer Dance Institute, which hosts great master instructors from all over the world. The instructors teach all types of dance, music, theater, storytelling, and cultural rituals to children and adults. The company also operates the Season of Schools program that introduces more than 50,000 students in Denver metro schools to dance. One of Denver’s greatest holiday traditions is the annual December concert, “Granny Dances to a Holiday Drum.” There’s usually an annual spring performance as well.
