1. Nuage

City: Cos Cob, CT
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (203) 869-2339
Address: 203 E. Putnam Ave.
Insider Pick:

Description: This French and Japanese hybrid in exclusive Cos Cob could just as easily fit into either of those categories. However, other than rack of lamb and filet mignon and a couple other dishes, nearly everything at Nuage is seafood. And what seafood! The monkfish pâté will make your mouth tingle and you’ll wonder why this (admittedly rare and expensive item) isn’t on every menu. The sushi is delicate and perfect, and not one of those carbon copy presentations you’ll too often find. Crispy flounder, skate wing, red snapper, and sea bass all make appearances, cooked with Japanese ingredients and French methods. There are four-, five-, and seven-course tasting menus, all of which make a trip to Nuage a lot friendlier on your wallet. However, for food this creative and well made, price should be no object.

2. Bush-Holley House

City: Cos Cob, CT
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (203) 869-6899
Address: 39 Strickland Rd.

Description: This 1732 central-chimney saltbox house is a treasure of colonial America that also played an important part in the American Impressionist movement at the turn of the 20th century. Artists Childe Hassam and J. Alden Weir stayed and painted here when this was a boardinghouse, and it is one of three great sites in Connecticut dedicated to this movement, including Weir Farm in Wilton and the Florence Griswold House in Lyme. The Bush-Holley House is the home of the Greenwich Historical Society, and as you might imagine, they have the money to sponsor all sorts of fun programs, like hearth cooking, painting, and ice-cream making, throughout the summer. Farmers’ markets are usually held here weekly as well. Call to check the calendar, and bring your paintbrushes.
