City: Deep River, CT
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (860) 526-4122
Address: 108 Main St.

Description: Owner Hedy Watrous keeps the traditions of her grandfather, who opened this cafe in 1928. Open for breakfast and lunch, the Whistle Stop serves omelets, sandwiches, salads, and other delicious entrees. If you’re a vegetarian, you’ll love the options for you, including the Marasco Fiasco, a wheat sandwich with eggplant, artichokes, sun-dried tomato, leeks, and Swiss cheese (take that off if you’re vegan). If you’re a meat eater, try the shaved steak with Gorgonzola or the excellent corned beef hash. Tell them the diet you prefer, and they will make suggestions from the menu. This cafe is literally one small room, and is always full of smiling families, locals, and very lucky tourists.
