Address: 225 Music Mountain Rd.

Description: Founded in 1930, the acoustically magical wooden concert hall at Music Mountain annually features 16 chamber music concerts and is now America’s oldest continuous chamber music festival. But Music Mountain does not only have chamber music, they also feature jazz, blues, and folk. In 2011 they added a silent-movie night with live accompaniment. There is seating for 335 on cushioned pews, but you can picnic on the 132 acres of lawn under trees or in the sun if you like. You can also dance on the outdoor dance floor. This is a series of concerts throughout the summer rather than a single event, on Fri and Sat evenings and Sun afternoons. The concerts are listened to on 125 radio stations nationwide, and in 35 other countries. But you can listen to them live, right here, amid the picturesque surroundings of the Litchfield Hills.

Telephone: (860) 824-7634
Address: 164 Canaan Mountain Rd.

Description: This 200-acre farm has been in the Lamothe family since the 1800s, and today the fourth generation is on the land. Since 1965 Rustling Wind has been a horse farm, and today has 30 horses, an indoor and outdoor arena, a jumping field, and miles of trails. If you are 8 or older, you can take guided English or Western saddle rides for 1 to 2 hours through the forests of this picturesque area, though they do have pony rides for smaller children. The farm is also a creamery, and they offer 10 different delectable cheeses at their store, as well as jams, pickles, maple products, goats’ milk soap, and hand knits from their own sheep wool. When you’re done exploring the trails on horseback and sampling the cheese, be sure to stop at the Great Falls of the Housatonic, for which the village is named.
