Address: 381 Route 80

Description: A hollow is a low place between the hills, and as you drive on Route 80, you will surely notice the huge dip into the lake valley at the center of this state park. Chatfield is a popular place to swim, complete with lifeguards, and offers many opportunities for rock climbers. You can fish (with a license) in the lake as well, catching mostly bass and pickerel. There are also numerous hiking trails that loop around the center valley. As you can see, what is really so great about this Killingworth gem is the variety of activities available. Just in from the parking lot at the main entrance, a side trail leads to the left and some “Indian caves,” where many artifacts were found. It’s important to remember, though, that the Indians did not live in these caves, but probably stopped here often on hunting and camping expeditions. There are caves on the Chatfield Trail on the south side of Route 80 as well. The beginning of that trail is west a few hundred yards from the main park entrance.
