Description: Oxford doesn’t really seem like it should even be in New Haven County, wedged up between Fairfield and Litchfield Counties, far from New Haven. But it is, and its public golf course is considered one of the best in the state. Designed by Mark Mungeam, the course features bent grass cultivars considered the very best. The trees of Naugatuck State Forest surround the course, and it has some great views as well. Par 72, Oxford Greens has a selection of tees that allow someone to play the course a total of 2,000 yards closer than a stronger partner. This course is partnered with the Connecticut Audubon Society and contains natural preserves worth paying attention to, if you can pull your attention from your game. With fun holes like Fortress (#16), this is a championship layout course for those who want to mix up their golf game a little, and practice new approaches and new shots.
