Description: The green sward of meadows on the west side of the Housatonic River is the setting for the 95 sites at this riverside campground. If you want to be right by the river, try to get one of the northernmost sites, but if you want more privacy, the ones along the forested eastern edge of the upper section are the best. This is a favorite of fly fishermen who walk down the hill to the river to fish the Trout Management Area that extends down to Cornwall Bridge. Across the street, the Pine Knob Loop Trail heads sharply up the ridge to the Appalachian Trail for anyone who wants to burn off a few calories to make room for marshmallows. In the hotter months, this is a cool place to camp, along the river in the shadow of the Taconic Mountains. Though, of course, it is a state park and does not have the amenities of a private campground, there are several stores just south on Route 7 in Cornwall Bridge, where you can pick up all the supplies you need.
