1. The Mill At 2T

City: Tariffville, CT
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (860) 658-7890
Address: 2 Tunxis Rd., Ste. 101
Insider Pick:

Description: Owners Kellyanne and Ryan Jones have created a surprising restaurant on the cutting edge of fine dining. The menu literally changes daily, so you are never quite sure what to expect. However, they do consistently serve popovers instead of bread, and their flaky, puffy wonderfulness will give you a hint of what’s to come. You might have choices of foie gras sliders, beet salad, cider-infused pork belly, pan-roasted duck breast, lemon-scented gnocchi, and more. For dessert, the brioche donuts with caramel are a revelation. The Mill at 2T is only open Wed through Sat between 5 and 10 p.m., and seating is limited, so make a reservation. Try to get a seat near the open kitchen so you can watch the geniuses behind one of Connecticut’s best new restaurants at work.

2. Farmington Valley Greenway

City: Tariffville, CT
Category: Tours & Attractions
Telephone: (860) 202-3928

Description: Not to be confused with the Farmington Canal Rail Trail in New Haven County, it is the dream of many bicyclists and walkers that one day soon they will connect. Only the area from northern Cheshire to Southington remains unpaved, and the Valley Greenway follows both the old canal line north and the river upstream to the northwest, making it one of the longest completed greenways in the state. It provides access to great fishing and rafting, but more importantly, it is a dream for in-line skaters, walkers, and bikers who want to get out of the cities for a day. Along the route you’ll find the charming village of Collinsville at one end, and at the other the trail heads into Massachusetts in Suffield. Unlike some of the other greenways, this one passes through many villages and provides eating and resting opportunities at comfortable intervals.
